Altar of My Heart (Ofrenda de mi Corazon)

Nearly four years have passed
Since you left this world so vast
But time does not erase the ache,
Nor soften how my heart still breaks.
Yet in the quiet, I feel your grace—
A strength in me that knows its place.
Your laughter echoes in my soul,
Your wisdom keeps my spirit whole.
This Day of the Dead, I call your name,
With marigolds and candle flame.
I build you an altar, tender and true,
With all the things that speak of you.
Your favorite foods, your cherished song,
The scents and colors you loved so long.
I’ll cook with care, I’ll play my flute,
I’ll sing and dance in your tribute.
Come visit me, mamá, Friday night—
The veil is thin, the stars are bright.
I’ll wear your love like sacred perfume,
And feel your presence fill the room.
You live in me, in every breath,
In every joy, in every death.
Your courage pulses through my veins,
Your love, a balm for all my pains.
So when I cry, it’s not goodbye—
It’s just the moonlight in my eye.
For you are here, not gone, not far,
You shine in me, my guiding star.
