Chance, My Teacher, My Tide

You came to me with soulful eyes,
A beagle mix, a sweet surprise.
A rescue pup, but truth be told—
You rescued me, made my heart whole.
We walked the shore, the ocean wide,
You chased the waves, I watched with pride.
The beach became our sacred ground,
Where joy and spirit both were found.
On August’s end in 2019, the sky grew still,
The tide pulled back, against my will.
You crossed the veil, so soft, so brave,
Yet left your pawprints on each wave.
I inked your name upon my skin,
A mark of love that lives within.
My first tattoo, a vow so deep—
To hold you close, awake or sleep.
You taught me death is not the end,
But just a bend, my dearest friend.
You showed me how the soul can stay,
In dreams, in signs, in light’s own way.
Now Día de los Muertos nears,
I build your altar through my tears.
Dog treats, beach scenes, candles bright—
Thank you for visiting me last night.
Chance, my guide, my heart, my flame,
I whisper softly your sweet name.
Come run with me in dreams once more,
Along the endless spirit shore.
